Sea Scouting ship patch

This patch almost qualified as a "whatsit?" We received the patch from Alvin Sakai who acquired it along with a Sea Scouting uniform, badges and certificates belonging to a Sea Scout from Wahiawa Hawaii in the 1930s. It is an embroidered flying duck or goose in the same style as the felt patrol medallions issued by the Boy Scouts of America in the 1930s through early 1950s. Instead of black thread on red felt, this medallion is white thread on dark navy felt. Eagle-eyed Garry Vaiana identified a "pre-BSA" version of the same patch on an early BSA Sea Scout uniform guide where the patch was identified as a Ship Patch. If you know of others, please send the information to Kevin Doyle.
