BSA Custom
patrol insignia of the Boy Scouts of America

From the beginning, BSA encouraged boys to come up with their own patrol medallions, while at the same time offering inexpensive medallions through National Supply offices. To facilitate this, they even offered patrol medallion blanks to make it easier for Scouts to come up with their own personalized patrol emblems. In recent years, the Custom Design arm of National Supply has offered to produce custom emblems for patrols in small quanities. We have been told that these may be samples produced by BSA's Custom Design shop to illustrate some of the possibilities. If you know more about any of these, or have others that we can add to this collection, please let us know.

Note: We received this additional information from Richard Orchard in September 2004.
"This emblem was created in 1993, My patrol, The "Hobbes", patrol for the 1993 National Jamboree in troop 1228 created this patch with the artistic talent of one of my Assistant Patrol Leader (I was Patrol Leader of the Hobbes Patrol). The patch was never meant to be circulated, but we made the mistake of having the patches made through the BSA service center, which of course was authorized to reproduce the patch as they so deemed if we produced the patch through them. The patch became widely available for the first time through the BSA catalog in 1994."
