Priorities and Strategies

Definitions:

Goal - An open ended statement of what one wishes to accomplish with no quantification of what is to be achieved and no time frame for completion

Objective - specific statements, desired short-term achievements which will lead to each long term goal and characterized as having measurable end results.

Category: Information

Goal: Increase availability and accessibility of information

Objectives (Activities)

  • Develop data set describing social condition that can be tracked over time
  • Develop a website and listserv
  • Produce a publication of resources for distribution through a newspaper
  • Create a contact directory for broad information dissemination

Category: Resources

Goal: Increase resources available to meet needs

Objectives (Activities)

  • Ensure that no cuts are made to existing services
  • Maximize federal funds

  • Influence, solicit gap/operational funding from local grant makers

Category: Food

Goal: Ensure consistent and adequate food supply

Objectives (Activities)

  • Create a communication network for all local food pantries, food banks and any other provider of food (FOODNet)

Category: Housing

Goal: Expand existing housing to meet current & future need

Objectives (Activities)

  • Change rent supplement program to include displaced workers with partial incomes. Requires legislative advocacy.
  • Use state bonds to repair public housing. Requires legislative advocacy.

Category: Health, including Mental Health

Goal: Expand capacity of existing low or no cost health care services

Objectives (Activities)

  • Strengthen network and increase coordination of mental health care system to increase capacity
  • Increase funds to primary care centers for provision of low or no cost health care

Category: Safe, Nurturing Social Environment

Goal: Provide those in need with a safe and nurturing environment

Objectives (Activities)

Risks of Homelessness

  • Utilize church space to provide a good nights sleep
  • Utilize vacant hotel rooms to temporarily house displaced hotel workers
  • Increase understanding of homelessness trend among government and enforcement personnel to develop policies that allow safe night's sleep.
  • Designate safe areas (i.e. Ala Moana park) for people to sleep (Safe Zone pilot project)

Category: Civic Vitality

Goal: Mobilize and increase community involvement

  • Implement communications plan aimed at increasing civic vitality coupled with community mobilization efforts to demonstrate power of working together
