Data Team January 31, 2002 Update Report |

Help Needed - We can certainly use assistance in getting the word out about the website and listserve and would appreciate any other email lists the task force can contribute. If committee members have anything to share or contributions to the site, please contact Ivette Rodriguez Stern (contact information below). Listserv - The listserv currently contains 613 email addresses, and reaches over 800 members (multiple individuals use the same email address at some sites). The database includes AUW agencies, the State's POS agencies, legislators, media, and members of the Hawaii Kids Count and Center on the Family email lists (mainly education, health and social service providers, and other child advocacy-related organizations). The number of individuals who have registered from the site in that last month has been under 20. No one has asked to be deleted from the listserv. Number of hits - This number is forthcoming. When retrieved, it will be an undercount for the following reasons (1) the tracking was set up 1 week after the site was launched, therefore we may have missed some users and (2) the college just migrated the server and the process affected tracking for several days. Data collection - We're working with several agencies and are in the process of collecting data for the following indicators:
We're also working on collecting additional utility delinquency data that were not part of the original set of selected indicators. We expect to roll out these additional indicators over the course of the next 1-1/2 months. Data reporting - When we conceptualized the site, we talked about providing data analysis and reporting and posting these either as news flashes or perspectives on the site. Marcia Hartsock and Ivette have taken a look at the data we have in house. For most of the indicators the latest data presented only takes us through December at this point (most of the agencies have a 1 to 2 month lag in rolling out the "most current" data). Given that, we haven't seen any sharp peaks or valleys that can be directly attributed to 9/11, other than what was recently discussed in a news flash regarding the unemployment rate. However, the effects are expected to be seen over the long term. We plan to develop something to this effect to post either as a news flash or perspective. Once the data begin speaking to us, we'll roll out additional data reports. In the meantime, the perspectives slated for February are from IHS and the Foodbank, and discuss their observations (mainly that they too haven't see any major spikes through December) and their projections. Bulletin Board - We've received a few emails through the Center on the Family website commenting on the perspectives/news flashes. We're therefore aiming to upload the bulletin board by next week so that users can begin posting their comments and generate discussion. Video Clips - We're also in the final editing stages of the first video clip that will be posted on the "Helpful Hints" page. This first video is of Dr. Barbara DeBaryshe offering strategies for coping with financial strain.
